NWS issues marginal severe-weather threat for most of Mississippi

The National Weather Service issued a marginal threat for severe weather for most of Mississippi on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and advised residents to “Stay Weather Aware.”

A marginal risk generally indicates that isolated severe thunderstorms are possible, though threats are expected to be limited in coverage or intensity. Even marginal events can produce hazards such as brief damaging winds, small hail and heavy downpours that could lead to localized flooding.

The National Weather Service is a federal agency within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that issues forecasts, watches and warnings to help people prepare for hazardous weather. Officials routinely urge residents to have multiple ways to receive warnings, including local media, the NWS website and NOAA Weather Radio, and to secure outdoor objects and review safety plans when storms are possible.

Specific timing, locations and any changes to the outlook were not included in the initial notice. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
