Hattiesburg police probe hit-and-run that damages utility pole
Hattiesburg police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that damaged a utility pole and caused a temporary power outage on Sunday, June 21, 2026, near the intersection of West Seventh Street and Main Street, the department said.
Officers and emergency responders were dispatched at about 3:26 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash in which a vehicle struck the pole, Hattiesburg Police Department said. The collision caused significant damage to the pole and interrupted power to nearby residences and businesses while crews responded.
The driver, described by police as a Hispanic male, fled the scene before officers arrived, the department said. Police searched the area but did not locate the driver, and the incident remains under investigation.
Authorities asked anyone with information about the driver’s identity or whereabouts to contact the Hattiesburg Police Department at 601-544-7900 or Metro Crime Stoppers by dialing TIPS. Leaving the scene of a crash can lead to criminal charges. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
