HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — The Hattiesburg Police Department said Wednesday that it arrested two people in connection with a shooting that injured a man in the 300 block of South 10th Avenue.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 5:29 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, and learned that an individual in a silver Honda had been shot in the leg, according to a Hattiesburg Police Department Facebook post. The victim was taken by a private vehicle to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
Following an investigation, police arrested Channing Vardmus Bolton, 42, of Hattiesburg, on charges of attempted murder and tampering with physical evidence. Rita Kittler, 48, of Hattiesburg, was arrested and charged with attempted murder. Investigators allege Kittler drove the vehicle used before, during and after the shooting.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the victim and the suspects knew one another and that investigators believe the incident was isolated with no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.
