Hattiesburg police arrest Jackson man in connection with two armed robberies

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — The Hattiesburg Police Department arrested a Jackson man Saturday in connection with two armed robberies on the 6000 block of Highway 98, the department said.

Officers responded to the first robbery call at 12:14 p.m. and while they were on scene a second robbery was reported at 12:26 p.m., according to a Facebook post by the Hattiesburg Police Department. The second report described a suspect who matched the description from the first incident.

Officers tracked and located the suspect, identified as Daniel Mason, 21, of Jackson. Mason was taken into custody at 12:50 p.m. after a brief struggle, police said. A wallet, cash, a backpack and a cell phone were reported stolen during the incidents; all items were recovered. No injuries were reported.

Mason has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of resisting arrest, the department said. Investigators believe the incidents are isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing.
