Gulfport police celebrate animal control officers during appreciation week

Gulfport Police Department said in a Facebook post this week that it is celebrating National Animal Control Officer Week and recognizing the men and women who respond to animal-related calls every day.

The department posted, “Some calls don’t have a voice, but they still deserve a response,” and highlighted that animal control officers protect, rescue and care for animals when they need it most.

Animal control officers typically handle stray and injured animals, investigations of cruelty or neglect, and situations that pose public safety risks. Municipal and county animal control units provide a frontline response that intersects public health, community safety and animal welfare.

Gulfport’s post thanked officers for their compassion and dedication and used hashtags including #AnimalControlAppreciationWeek and #GulfportProud. The recognition underscores the often unseen work that supports both animals and residents. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
