Facebook post says foreign billionaires try to cripple U.S. energy infrastructure

A Facebook post warned that “left-wing foreign billionaires and their dark money are trying to cripple America’s energy infrastructure and the technology that will keep our country the strongest in the world for generations,” and added, “We can’t allow them to win. And, in Mississippi, we won’t!” the post said. The post did not name specific individuals or organizations.

“Dark money” generally refers to political spending by groups that are not required to disclose their donors, a practice that has drawn attention from lawmakers and watchdog groups across the political spectrum. Debates over such funding often surface in discussions about energy policy, environmental regulation and national security.

Claims that outside actors seek to influence or undermine energy systems touch on broader concerns about the resilience of power grids, pipelines and the technologies used in sectors from utilities to manufacturing. Those issues carry economic and public-safety implications for states that house energy infrastructure, including Mississippi.
