Flood-affected residents urged to contact Red Cross, local aid groups

Residents affected by recent flooding should contact disaster relief organizations to register for aid and request assistance, according to a Facebook post from local relief organizers.

The American Red Cross can be reached at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to register and complete a needs assessment; callers should follow prompts for TS Arthur/Mississippi. Clothing vouchers to the Salvation Army will be provided as needed, the post said.

Local resources include the Harrison County Long Term Recovery Committee at 228-896-2213, the Harrison County Advocacy Center at 228-241-1837 and The Shannah Closet at 228-297-2662 (clothing needs only).

Organizers are also requesting donations. Monetary contributions may be made to the Harrison County Long Term Recovery Committee at https://www.harrisonstrong.org/donate/. Requested items for drop-off include bottled water, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, personal care items, adult socks, trash bags and work gloves. To maximize available space, only the listed items will be accepted.

Distribution and drop-off locations are the Salvation Army Family Store Thrift & Consignment, 8405 U.S. Highway 49 in Gulfport, Mississippi (Monday–Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday closed), and the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 575 Division Street in Biloxi, Mississippi (Monday–Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday closed).

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
