Flood victims urged to contact relief agencies
People affected by recent flooding in Mississippi should contact relief agencies for assistance, according to a Facebook post. The post directs people to register with the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) and to follow the prompts for Tropical Storm Arthur in Mississippi to complete a needs assessment.
The post says clothing vouchers will be provided by the Salvation Army as needed. It also lists local contacts: Harrison County Long Term Recovery Committee at 228-896-2213; Harrison County Advocacy Center at 228-241-1837; and The Shannah Closet at 228-297-2662 for clothing needs only.
Organizers are requesting monetary donations to the Harrison County Long Term Recovery Committee at https://www.harrisonstrong.org/donate/. They also ask for specific donated items only to maximize available space: bottled water, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, personal care items, adult socks, trash bags and work gloves.
Drop-off and distribution locations include The Salvation Army Family Store Thrift & Consignment, 8405 U.S. Highway 49, Gulfport, open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and The Salvation Army Kroc Center, 575 Division St., Biloxi, open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
