Several officers and an assistant victim services coordinator became American Red Cross certified CPR instructors, the department said on its Facebook page. The post named Officers Brelynn Hudgins, Roman Sones, Mackenzie Rogers, Nehemiah Carter and MK Vaughn, and Assistant Victim Services Coordinator Christina Hervey.
The Facebook post said the certification allows the newly trained instructors to teach CPR to others and will help ensure the department — referred to in the post as OPD — remains CPR certified and prepared to respond when every second counts.
American Red Cross instructor certification typically enables organizations to expand in-house training capacity, allowing more staff to receive regular certification and refresher training. Departments that train internal instructors can maintain readiness without relying solely on outside providers, which officials say can shorten the time between updates and recertification.
The department called the certifications an investment in officers, the agency and the community it serves. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
