PIKE COUNTY, Mississippi — Just after 5:00 a.m. on Aug. 8, deputies with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office assisted McComb police in locating a vehicle reported stolen from the city, the sheriff’s office said. The driver refused to stop and led deputies and officers on a pursuit through Pike County before re-entering McComb.
The sheriff’s office said deputies deployed spike strips to slow the vehicle and on Park Drive a deputy used a tactical vehicle intervention, commonly called a PIT maneuver, to end the pursuit. Marquez Monley of McComb was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Pike County Jail, the post said.
Sheriff Bryant Wally Jones said in the Facebook post that the agencies’ coordination brought the pursuit to a safe conclusion and reiterated a tough stance on crime. “Once again, I want to send a message to the criminal element that apparently still does not understand: we are tough on crime in Pike County,” the sheriff said. He described the use of spike strips and tactical vehicle interventions as tools deputies are trained to use when circumstances allow.
The sheriff’s office thanked deputies and the McComb Police Department for their teamwork. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law, the post said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
