Police arrest woman after shots fired at unoccupied vehicle in Starkville

STARKVILLE, Mississippi — Officers with the Starkville Police Department responded to Brookville Garden apartments at 305 Everglade Avenue at 8:17 p.m. Thursday after reports of shots fired and arrested Nykhira Singleton, 26, of Starkville, the department said in a news release.

Police said Singleton was charged with malicious mischief, a felony; discharging a firearm within city limits; and outstanding traffic warrants. The department said the shots were fired at an unoccupied vehicle and that the people involved knew each other prior to the incident.

The incident remains under investigation, the release said. Starkville is a city in northeastern Mississippi and is home to Mississippi State University; police did not provide additional details about injuries or a motive in the release.
