Deputy Roberts teaches fingerprinting to Guntown Middle students
GUNTOWN, Mississippi — Deputy Roberts, the school resource officer at Guntown Middle School, joined an eighth-grade English class this week as part of a weeklong Crime Scene project, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
Students learned how fingerprints are left behind by skin on surfaces and how prints can be used to identify individuals in real investigations. The sheriff’s office said the highlight was giving students the opportunity to try lifting fingerprints themselves.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, which provides law enforcement services in Lee County, routinely assigns school resource officers to local schools. School resource officers commonly provide security, teach safety and law-related topics, and work to build positive relationships between students and police.
Officials said the classroom visit was part of the department’s outreach to support education and community engagement, and to give students hands-on experience with basic forensic concepts. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
