Deputy Gabriel Peace connects with Pisgah students as school resource officer

BRANDON, Miss. — Deputy Gabriel Peace serves as a school resource officer at Pisgah Elementary and takes pride in the connections he builds with students, WJTV reported. “Sometimes they just want to tell me about the bug they saw outside,” WJTV reported Peace saying.

WJTV noted that Peace wears his deputy star while working for the Rankin County Sheriffs Department and patrols Pisgah Elementary as part of his duties. The station said his role includes daily contact with students and school staff.

School resource officers are sworn law enforcement officers assigned to schools to help maintain safety, respond to incidents and develop relationships with students and educators. Law enforcement agencies and districts across the country use SROs to provide security and to serve as a visible, trusted presence on campus.

Officials and community members often highlight the relationship-building aspect of the job as a key part of keeping schools safe and fostering trust between young people and police. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
