Gulfport Police Department said in a Facebook post that its School Resource Officers are welcoming students, teachers and staff back for the new school year and will serve as mentors and role models in district schools.
The department said the officers aim to build positive relationships, support educators and help create a safe environment where students can learn and grow. The post described the officers as more than law enforcement, noting they will greet students, lend a helping hand and be a friendly presence in hallways.
The Facebook post included hashtags such as #GulfportProud and #BackToSchool and emphasized the department’s commitment to serving schools and the broader community. School resource officers typically serve as a law enforcement presence on campus and often act as liaisons between students, school staff and local police agencies.
