Sharkey County deputies collide during pursuit; suspect arrested

TWO SHARKEY COUNTY — Two Sharkey County deputies were involved in a collision Friday while pursuing a vehicle whose driver allegedly failed to yield to emergency lights, the sheriff’s department said.

The department asked the community to keep the deputies in their thoughts and prayers and said the officers were receiving care. Officials did not provide details about the deputies’ conditions or specify whether they were injured, the department said.

A suspect connected to the incident has been arrested and is being held at the Issaquena County Correctional Facility, the sheriff’s department said. The department said it will release additional details about the pursuit and events leading up to the collision as the investigation continues.

Sharkey County is in central Mississippi. Law enforcement pursuits can pose significant risks to officers and the public, and agencies commonly review pursuit-related collisions through internal and criminal investigations.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
