Covington County deputy shot during traffic stop
A Facebook post said a Covington County sheriff’s deputy was shot and seriously injured during a traffic stop in Covington County, Mississippi.
The post said law enforcement are working to bring those responsible to justice and added, “Make no mistake, they will be brought to justice.” The post did not provide additional details about the deputy’s condition, the exact location or the suspected assailants.
Sheriff’s deputies typically conduct traffic stops to enforce laws, investigate suspicious activity and protect the public. An officer-involved shooting can trigger a multiagency response, including criminal investigations and efforts to locate suspects.
The Facebook post asked Mississippians to pray for the deputy and their family, saying, “Please pray for this deputy and their family, Mississippi!” Officer-involved shootings draw close community attention, and authorities often appeal for public tips while they pursue leads.
