Southaven police issue BOLO, pray for injured Covington County deputy

Southaven Police Department said on Facebook that it issued a BOLO and is praying for a Covington County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was injured and for the safety of those working the active situation.

The department’s post used the acronym BOLO, which stands for “be on the lookout,” a common law enforcement alert asking officers and the public to be vigilant for a person or vehicle related to an incident. The post included the name “Hobbs.”

Southaven is a city in DeSoto County in northern Mississippi and often coordinates with nearby agencies on cross-jurisdictional incidents. Covington County is in southern Mississippi; its sheriff’s office serves a largely rural area and responds to both routine calls and larger, sometimes multi-agency, operations.

Social media posts from police agencies serve several purposes: alerting the public, seeking assistance or information from witnesses, and signaling solidarity among agencies during emergencies. The department’s message emphasized concern for the injured deputy and those responding to the scene.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
