Coahoma County Jail is officially accredited by the American Correctional Association, county officials said. Chief Marena Jones and Warden Deon Elmore accepted the certificate on behalf of the jail after attending the 156th Congress of Correction ACA Conference in Pennsylvania, the county said in a Facebook post.
The American Correctional Association is a national organization that develops professional standards for correctional agencies and offers voluntary accreditation programs. Accreditation follows a review process intended to evaluate facility operations, safety, security and inmate care against established standards.
County officials said the accreditation adds to the jail’s accomplishments and expressed pride in the outcome. Accreditation is widely viewed in the corrections field as a marker that a facility meets recognized professional standards, which can affect staff training, operational practices and public confidence.
The county thanked everyone who helped achieve the designation and congratulated the jail staff. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
