Picayune Police Department said on its Facebook page that it has been awarded national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, known as CALEA.
The department said CALEA accreditation is considered the gold standard in law enforcement and requires agencies to meet a rigorous set of standards covering policy, procedures, operations and accountability. The process includes a comprehensive review of the department’s policies, management, operations and support services, along with an on-site assessment by independent CALEA assessors, the department said.
The department said the accreditation reflects the hard work, professionalism and commitment of its members and demonstrates a dedication to transparency and community service. It noted the process is voluntary and requires ongoing compliance and periodic reassessments to maintain accredited status.
The department said there are almost 400 law enforcement agencies in Mississippi and that Picayune is one of eight departments nationally accredited and one of 40 accredited through the state. The department thanked the community, officers and staff for their support. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
