UMMC enrolls first nurse anesthetist cohort
Sixteen registered nurses are the first students in the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s new nurse anesthetist program, the medical center said in a Facebook post.
UMMC said the inaugural cohort is beginning advanced training at Mississippi’s only academic medical center. The program will train nurses to provide anesthesia care and related services in clinical settings across the state.
Nurse anesthetists, commonly known as certified registered nurse anesthetists or CRNAs, deliver anesthesia and perioperative care in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and other health care facilities. Training programs for nurse anesthetists typically include advanced clinical education and supervised patient care experiences.
UMMC said the program aims to prepare practitioners to help meet a growing need for highly skilled anesthesia providers in Mississippi and beyond. The medical center posted a link to a full news release on its website for more information.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
