UMMC recognizes more than 70 faculty with promotions, tenure
The University of Mississippi Medical Center said it has granted promotions and tenure to more than 70 faculty members, calling each decision the result of “hard work, leadership and commitment to excellence.” The announcement appeared on the institution’s Facebook page and links to a full list of honorees.
UMMC is the state’s academic medical center, responsible for training physicians, nurses and other health professionals, conducting biomedical research and providing patient care across Mississippi. Faculty promotions and tenure decisions typically reflect contributions to those core missions.
Academic promotions and tenure confer greater job security and recognition, and they can influence the quality of education, the strength of research programs and clinical services available to patients. Institutions often use such promotions to retain and recruit experienced educators and investigators.
