Oxford School District warns of heavier traffic as students return

Oxford School District officials are urging patience and caution as students, teachers and staff return to classes, saying drivers should expect heavier traffic around schools. The district posted the guidance on its Facebook page and offered safety reminders for motorists and families.

The district said its School Resource Officers will be out early directing traffic and monitoring bus routes. Officials advised drivers to leave a little earlier than usual because the first few days of school often take longer as families and staff re-establish routines.

The post reminded drivers to watch for school buses and to stop if a bus has its stop arm extended and red lights flashing. The district said officers will take enforcement action against motorists who illegally pass stopped school buses.

Keeping students safe is the district’s top priority, the post said. For additional back-to-school information, the district provided a link to its family resources page: https://www.oxfordsd.org/resources/family-resources/backtoschool. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
