Lafayette County students return to class; district urges motorists to use caution
Lafayette County School District students return to class tomorrow, the district said in a Facebook post, and motorists should expect more school buses, student pedestrians and officers on the road during the morning commute.
The district asked drivers to slow down in school zones, allow extra travel time, watch for students, stop for school buses when their stop arm is extended and follow directions from officers and crossing guards, the post said.
The start of the school year typically brings increased traffic around schools and bus routes as families, school staff and law enforcement work to ensure students reach class safely. Crossing guards and police officers often direct traffic at busy intersections and along bus routes to reduce the risk of collisions and protect children walking to school.
The district closed its message by wishing students a good first day and addressed students and families as “Commodores.” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
