Honors College emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, service
The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Honors College held its inaugural awards ceremony to recognize students whose experience was about more than grades, the university said.
University officials said the program emphasizes learning across disciplines, broadening perspectives and preparing students to better serve patients and communities in the future. The awards highlighted those priorities rather than solely academic performance, according to a university news release.
Honors colleges at medical and other universities typically offer enriched coursework, research opportunities and mentorship meant to develop critical thinking, teamwork and leadership. Such experiences are often designed to help students navigate complex health care environments and address community needs.
University leaders and educators said recognizing this broader set of accomplishments underlines the institution’s focus on service and interdisciplinary collaboration. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
