Toppers fall to Grand View on walk-off in opener

Blue Mountain Christian University opened play in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round on Monday afternoon in Oklahoma City, battling No. 2-seeded Grand View University before falling 2-1 on a walk-off single in the seventh inning, the school said.

The Toppers, who compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, earned a berth in the opening round to compete for a spot in the NAIA national championship field. The opening round serves as the first stage of the postseason, with winners advancing deeper into the tournament.

Grand View, the No. 2 seed, secured the victory in the tightly contested matchup. Grand View University is based in Des Moines, Iowa; Blue Mountain Christian University is located in Blue Mountain, Mississippi.

The close loss marked a dramatic finish to the Toppers’ opening-round appearance and underscored the competitiveness of the NAIA tournament. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
