Facebook post urges drivers to protect students as schools reopen

A Facebook post urged drivers to take precautions as students head back to school, reminding the public of steps they can take to help children arrive safely each day.

Drivers were asked to watch for school buses and stop when a bus has its red lights flashing and its stop arm extended, waiting until children have safely crossed and the bus moves again. Motorists were also urged to slow down in school zones and obey posted speed limits during active school zone hours.

The post emphasized yielding to pedestrians, noting that children may not always look before crossing. It called on drivers to stay focused, avoid distractions and be prepared to stop at crosswalks whether they are commuting, dropping off a child or passing through town.

The message closed with a reminder to put safety first so every child can make it to school and back home. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
