CEU training teaches beauty professionals to spot domestic violence, trafficking
A Facebook post is calling licensed cosmetologists and barbers to a continuing education opportunity designed to help them recognize signs of domestic violence and human trafficking, organizers said.
The training, which meets the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering requirement for continuing education for licensure, will be offered in two sessions at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., the post said. Organizers urged professionals to reserve seats early because space is limited and provided a short registration link: https://bit.ly/chairasasafespace.
Barbers and beauty professionals often work in one of the most trusted spaces in a client’s life, and advocates say they can play a role in identifying potential victims and connecting them to help. The course is designed to teach recognition of warning signs as well as safe, appropriate ways to respond and refer clients to services.
Continuing education is a routine requirement for maintaining professional licensure in many states, including Mississippi, and trainings that address public safety concerns seek to equip licensees with practical skills they can use on the job. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
