NWS warns minor coastal flooding possible beginning tomorrow

The National Weather Service office in New Orleans said in a Facebook post that minor coastal flooding is possible beginning tomorrow.

The agency urged residents and motorists to avoid flooded roadways, saying, “Do not cross water-covered roadways! Turn Around Don’t Drown!” The guidance reflects the service’s routine public-safety messaging ahead of expected water-level rises.

The National Weather Service issues forecasts, warnings and safety guidance for coastal Louisiana and adjacent areas. Minor coastal flooding can result in flooded streets, stranded vehicles and localized property impacts, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods and along bayous and beaches.

The warning underscores the risks that even shallow floodwater poses to drivers and emergency responders. National Weather Service safety campaigns, including the Turn Around Don’t Drown initiative, stress that motorists should not attempt to drive through standing or flowing water because vehicles can be swept away.

Details from the New Orleans office were limited in the social-media post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
