Two charged with felony child abuse after infant dies in Tupelo

Tupelo police charged Daniel Ross, 37, of Plantersville, and Charity Burdine, 33, of Tupelo, with felony child abuse after an unresponsive infant was taken from the Super 7 Inn to North Mississippi Medical Center and later pronounced dead, according to the Tupelo Police Department.

Officers responded to the report at 1500 McCullough Blvd. on 09-18-26. Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Ross and Burdine held without bond that day.

The case remains active and ongoing, and further charges could be pending at a later date. The charges will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury.
