Greenville police arrest Cedric Curtis Jr. after traffic stop yields firearm

A traffic stop on Reed Road led Greenville police to arrest Cedric Curtis Jr. and recover a firearm allegedly equipped with a machine gun conversion device, according to the Greenville Police Department.

Investigators with the department’s Special Operations Division stopped a Chevrolet Tahoe for an equipment violation. During the investigation, officers recovered suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia and ammunition from the vehicle.

A further search found a concealed firearm inside a compartment in the vehicle’s center console. Investigators determined the firearm had allegedly been modified with a machine gun conversion device.

Investigators also determined that Curtis has a prior felony conviction. He was cited for improper equipment, an expired tag, possession of marijuana less than 30 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Curtis was taken into custody and transported to the Greenville Police Department.

The firearm-related investigation remains ongoing. People arrested or charged with crimes are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
