Two arrested after Oxford vape store search yields kratom, suspected narcotics

Two Oxford men were arrested after the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at Puffs Vape, Tobacco and Beer Store, authorities said. The store is in the 100 block of Heritage Drive in Oxford.

Agents recovered more than 500 units of kratom, along with THC cartridges, gummies and other suspected narcotics during the search, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office. Kratom has been prohibited from possession, distribution and sale within Oxford since 2019.

Yahya Mohamed Mosleh, 51, of Oxford, and Islam Mohamed, 18, of Oxford, were charged with possession of Schedule I controlled substances with intent to distribute.

The agency said it received information on Thursday, September 24, 2026, about the alleged sale of illegal substances at a retail business in Oxford. During the investigation, agents conducted a controlled purchase and then applied for and received a search warrant.

The business owner, Amer Alowdi, 40, was indicted for trafficking narcotics in 2022 and fled the country before prosecution, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The investigation remains active, and the Sheriff's Office said additional charges may be forthcoming.
