Deputy killed and bystander injured in shooting near Hermanville
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office near Hermanville, where a deputy was killed and a female bystander was injured.
Deputies were attempting to disperse a crowd in the parking lot of Michael Dean’s Convenience Store around midnight when gunshots were directed toward the crowd. The bystander was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A deputy was also taken to a hospital and was later pronounced dead.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible. MBI agents are gathering evidence and will share their findings with the local District Attorney’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office after completing the investigation.
