Deputy killed, bystander wounded in shooting near Hermanville
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting near Hermanville that killed a Claiborne County sheriff’s deputy and wounded a female bystander.
Deputies were attempting to disperse a crowd in the parking lot of Michael Dean’s Convenience Store around midnight when gunshots were directed toward the crowd, according to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. The bystander was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The deputy was also transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
MBI said it is assessing the incident and gathering evidence. After the investigation is complete, agents will share their findings with the local District Attorney’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office.
