Oxford police announce traffic, shuttle and safety plans for Ole Miss home opener

The Oxford Police Department will increase its presence around the downtown Square for the Ole Miss football home opener against the Charlotte 49ers, with a focus on preventing disturbances and unsafe activity. A Safe Site tent across from Funky’s will provide assistance downtown.

Free shuttles will operate from South Oxford Center, Northwest Community College and Oxford High School parking lots starting five hours before kickoff and continuing until two hours after the game. The Jackson Avenue Center no longer has free parking; parking there is available only through the CLUTCH! app.

O.U.T. will provide free service from the Square to the Union and from the Jackson Avenue Center lot to the Observatory for two hours after the game. Rideshare pickups will be limited by a campus geofence to designated locations at the Gertrude Ford Center, Jackson Avenue Center parking lot, Kudzu lot off Old Taylor Road and Insight Park near the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

Oxford police said no-parking zones, including highways and exit ramps, will be enforced and vehicles parked in those areas will be towed at the owner’s expense. The SEC clear bag policy will apply inside the stadium, and attendees were advised to lock their vehicles and store valuables in the trunk.

Beginning in the fourth quarter, Gertrude Ford and Old Taylor Road will become one-way routes away from campus. Shuttle buses will pick up at the power plant lot on Gertrude Ford. At Molly Barr and Washington, only southbound shuttle buses may continue toward Gertrude Ford after the change; other vehicles must turn left toward the City Pool or right toward the Chamber of Commerce.

The Ford Center lot must exit northbound toward Jackson Avenue, while Lot A and Manning Way traffic must turn right toward Old Taylor Road. Police asked motorists to follow officers’ directions and remain patient as traffic is directed throughout Oxford. Updates are available through the department’s X and Facebook accounts, while pregame traffic updates will air on the Tailgate Show on FM93.7 or FM105.5.
