OPD outlines traffic, parking plans for Ole Miss-LSU game day
The Oxford Police Department will increase its presence around the downtown Square for the Ole Miss football game against LSU and has outlined transportation, parking and traffic procedures for game day.
People needing assistance downtown can visit the Safe Site tent across the street from Funky’s. Free shuttles will run from parking lots at South Oxford Center, Northwest Community College and Oxford High School, beginning five hours before kickoff and continuing through two hours after the game.
The Jackson Avenue Center no longer offers free parking. Parking there is available only through the CLUTCH! parking app. O.U.T. will provide free shuttle service from the Square to the Union and from the Jackson Avenue Center lot to the Observatory for two hours after the game.
Rideshare pickups will operate under a campus geofence. Designated locations include the Gertrude Ford Center, the Jackson Avenue Center lot, the Kudzu lot off Old Taylor Road and Insight Park near the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
Oxford police said no-parking zones will be enforced, with vehicles in designated areas — including highways and exit ramps — subject to towing at the owner’s expense. The SEC clear bag policy will be in effect, and motorists were advised to lock their vehicles and place valuables in the trunk.
Beginning when the fourth quarter starts, Gertrude Ford and Old Taylor Road will convert to one-way traffic off campus. Shuttle buses will pick up at the power plant parking lot on Gertrude Ford. At Molly Barr and Washington, only southbound shuttle buses may continue toward Gertrude Ford; other traffic must turn left toward the City Pool or right toward the Chamber of Commerce.
The Ford Center lot will exit northbound toward Jackson Avenue, while Lot A and Manning Way traffic will be required to turn right toward Old Taylor Road. Police urged drivers to follow officers’ directions and use caution as traffic is managed throughout Oxford.
