The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office is urging people to think carefully before posting personal information online, warning that small details can help scammers and criminals learn about individuals and their families.
The office advised against sharing a home address or exact location and encouraged people to think twice before announcing vacation plans. It also recommended caution when posting a child’s school, schedule or activities.

The guidance also called on users to check photo backgrounds for information they may not intend to share. The office’s message was: “Pause. Think. Then post.”
The office concluded by encouraging people to protect their privacy and their families.
