The National Weather Service Memphis Tennessee shared rip current and tropical safety guidance as part of day five of Deaf Awareness Week, aimed at people planning beach trips.
The guidance says swimmers caught in a rip current should remain calm and swim along the shoreline. Those too far from shore should remain still and float toward the shoreline.

The service also advised beachgoers to check their beach forecast at weather.gov/beach. A safety video in American Sign Language is available as part of the guidance.
