Facebook shows unavailable content message when post is restricted or removed
Facebook displays a message saying “This content isn’t available right now” when a post cannot be shown to a user, the platform indicates. The notice adds that the most common reasons are that the owner shared the content with a small group, changed who can see it or deleted it.
The brief message appears across Facebook’s service, which is owned by Meta Platforms Inc., and on pages and posts when visibility settings or removal prevent access. Facebook offers a range of audience controls that let users limit posts to friends, groups or custom lists; posts removed by their authors or by the platform also become inaccessible.
For journalists, researchers and ordinary users, such notices can complicate efforts to verify content, track public discussion or preserve records of events. Social media platforms regularly face scrutiny over transparency, moderation and the permanence of online material.
When a post returns a visibility notice, users who need access can contact the person who originally shared it or review their own privacy and account settings. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
