Facebook shows ‘content isn’t available’ when posts restricted or removed

Facebook displays the message “This content isn’t available right now” when a post cannot be viewed because of the owner’s privacy settings or because it has been removed, the platform’s on-screen text says.

The message adds that the issue usually occurs “because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it’s been deleted.” Facebook is part of Meta Platforms Inc., which offers users a range of audience controls that let them limit visibility to friends, custom lists or the public.

Such notices matter for readers, journalists and researchers who rely on social media for information and documentation. When content is restricted or deleted, it can complicate efforts to verify reports, trace the origin of posts or preserve a public record.

Users who encounter the message can try logging into the account that follows the poster, contacting the person who shared the content or checking later to see whether the post has been restored. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
