Facebook shows ‘content isn’t available’ when posts restricted or deleted

Facebook displays a message reading “This content isn’t available right now” when a post cannot be viewed by the person trying to access it, the company’s interface indicates.

The notice typically appears when the post owner limits visibility to a small group, changes who can see the post or deletes it. It can also show up if a post has been removed by the platform or an account has been deactivated.

The message reflects Facebook’s privacy and sharing controls, which allow users to restrict individual posts to friends, lists or groups. Such controls are intended to give users control over who sees their content, but they can complicate efforts by journalists, researchers and the public to verify or follow online information.

Users who encounter the message can try asking the post owner for access, check their own account permissions or, if they are the owner, review the post’s privacy settings and activity log. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
