Southern Miss soccer hosts Louisiana Tech after first Sun Belt win
Southern Miss soccer returns to Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex on Sunday for a 1 p.m. Sun Belt Conference match against Louisiana Tech. The Golden Eagles enter at 4-3-2 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Bulldogs are 2-6-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.
Southern Miss earned its first Sun Belt victory Thursday, winning 1-0 at Arkansas State. Lorilee Taylor scored her second goal of the season in the 32nd minute, and the Golden Eagles held on for their third clean sheet. The victory gave Southern Miss wins in three of its last four matches.
Ava Bynes leads Southern Miss with four goals, two assists and 10 points. Taylor and Ryan Smith each have two goals and two assists for six points, while Olivia Tribolet, Oliwia Loeman and Shaelynn Quick have each scored twice. Logan McGruder has made 38 saves in nine appearances with a .731 save percentage.
Sunday’s match will be the program’s International Day, featuring a halftime recognition of international students and a soccer scarf giveaway.
Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series 7-4-3, but Southern Miss is 4-2-2 against the Bulldogs in Hattiesburg. The Golden Eagles won the most recent meeting 1-0 at the Bell Complex on Sept. 7, 2025.
The Bulldogs come to Hattiesburg after a 2-0 loss to App State on Thursday. Louisiana Tech opened conference play with a 1-1 draw at Marshall and has scored 11 goals in 10 matches while averaging 11.6 shots per contest.
Sunday begins a two-match homestand for Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles will remain at home to face Louisiana on Saturday, Oct. 3, at noon at Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex.
