Toppers show promise, fall to Louisiana Christian 3-1

Blue Mountain Christian opened its 2026 season Saturday in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, falling 3-1 to Louisiana Christian University, the program reported.

Louisiana Christian took an early lead when Katalina Medina scored in the fifth minute off an assist from Isabella Urbaneto. The Toppers stabilized and kept the Wildcats off the board for nearly 40 minutes, but Giselle Laing scored in the 45th minute on an assist from Izzy Childs to send Louisiana Christian into halftime ahead 2-0.

Less than two minutes into the second half Medina scored her second goal to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 3-0. Blue Mountain Christian continued to press and generated five shots in the second half, and Nayelli Aguayo scored in the 66th minute off an assist from Maria Eduarda Koespel to cut the deficit to 3-1, but the Toppers could not close the gap.

Louisiana Christian finished with a 24-10 advantage in total shots and put 12 attempts on goal to BMCU’s six. The Wildcats held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Blue Mountain Christian recorded nine saves while Louisiana Christian had five. The Toppers return to action Saturday, Aug. 29, hosting Talladega College in their 2026 home opener.
