Toppers fall 3-1 to Louisiana Christian in season opener

Blue Mountain Christian University opened its 2026 women’s soccer season Saturday in Blue Mountain, Miss., but fell 3-1 to Louisiana Christian University as the Wildcats built an early lead and held on for the victory.

Louisiana Christian struck in the fifth minute when Katalina Medina scored off an assist from Isabella Urbaneto. The Wildcats extended the lead in the 45th minute on a goal by Giselle Laing assisted by Izzy Childs, and Medina added her second goal less than two minutes into the second half to make it 3-0.

The Toppers responded in the 66th minute when Nayelli Aguayo scored off an assist from Maria Eduarda Koespel for Blue Mountain Christian’s lone goal. BMCU generated five second-half shots but could not cut the deficit further.

Official statistics provided by Blue Mountain Christian showed Louisiana Christian held a 24-10 advantage in total shots and a 12-6 edge in shots on goal. The Wildcats also had a 4-1 margin in corner kicks. Blue Mountain Christian recorded nine saves to Louisiana Christian’s five. The Toppers will host Talladega College on Aug. 29 at 1 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
