Toppers earn first NAIA Opening Round bid

Blue Mountain Christian University announced Wednesday that its softball team earned an at-large bid into the 2026 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round, the first national tournament appearance in program history. The school said the team learned of the selection Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.

The NAIA, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, stages national championships for smaller colleges and universities. The Opening Round is the initial stage of the national tournament in which selected teams compete for berths in later rounds of the championship.

The selection marks a milestone for the Toppers and the university’s athletics program, signaling growth and increased competitive recognition at the national level. Such appearances can raise a program’s profile with recruits, alumni and the local community.

Details about opponents, dates and locations for the Opening Round were not provided in the announcement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
