Toppers drop 7-6 decision to Freed-Hardeman
Henderson, Tenn. — Blue Mountain’s Toppers fell 7-6 to Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday in a nine-inning, out-of-conference game, the Blue Mountain athletics department said.
Freed-Hardeman struck first, scoring in each of the first three innings — using a sacrifice bunt, a solo home run and a wild pitch to build a 3-0 lead — and added another run in the fourth to make it 4-0.
The Toppers began chipping away in the fourth when Ross Polizzi delivered an RBI double to score Yaidel Perez. Blue Mountain took a 6-5 lead after Jacob Bryant hit a three-run homer in the fifth and Jake Meilstrup followed with a two-run homer in the sixth. Freed-Hardeman tied the game in the sixth and secured the eventual go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Bryant finished with three RBIs and Meilstrup had two RBIs and reached base four times. Cody Presley recorded a multi-hit game and Polizzi added the RBI double. Judson Griffin started and allowed three runs in three innings. Caleb Hall worked in relief, and Jesse Hancock was charged with the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run in the eighth. Chip Harris closed with a scoreless inning. The Toppers return home to face Freed-Hardeman on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the BMCU Sportsplex.
