Toppers split doubleheader with Christian Brothers, win game two

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University said its softball team split a midweek doubleheader with NCAA Division II Christian Brothers on Tuesday at the BMCU Sportsplex, dropping game one 7-3 before rallying for a 5-4 extra-inning win in game two.

Christian Brothers built a 3-0 lead with runs in the first, third and fourth innings of game one. Rachel Rommel delivered an RBI single in the fourth, and Kelsey Camp tied the game with a two-RBI single in the fifth. Camp set a new BMCU single-season RBI record with 35. Christian Brothers scored four runs in the sixth to secure the 7-3 victory. Anna Harrison went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases. Bri Langley took the loss after five innings; Madison Montgomery threw two scoreless innings of relief, the school said.

In game two, Blue Mountain fell behind 2-0 before Bre Ramsey had an RBI double and Karen Wisher followed with a two-RBI double in the fourth for a 3-2 lead. Christian Brothers answered with two runs in the fifth, but Mikaylah Fuqua tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Gail Wisher delivered a walk-off RBI single up the middle in the eighth, scoring Fuqua for the 5-4 win. Neely Cooper pitched the complete extra-inning game, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out three, the school said.

Blue Mountain collected nine hits in the nightcap with contributions from Ramsey, Karen Wisher, Fuqua and Gail Wisher. The Toppers are scheduled to play William Carey University on April 17. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
