Toppers drop series to ABAC on Senior Day

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian’s baseball team lost its Senior Day series to ABAC (Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College), falling 6-1 in Saturday’s finale and conceding the weekend series, the school said.

The series opened with a 12-11 loss in a back-and-forth game before ABAC took Game 2 by an 8-2 margin, Blue Mountain Christian said. Both teams traded runs and momentum throughout the weekend.

In the finale, the Toppers struck first when Reise Thomas drove in Ethan Hirons with an RBI double in the third inning to make it 1-0. ABAC evened the score in the fourth and took a 2-1 lead on a sixth-inning solo home run. The visitors added four runs in the ninth to create the final 6-1 margin, the school reported.

Blue Mountain collected 10 hits, led by Jake Meilstrup’s four-hit game. Thomas had two hits and the team’s lone RBI. Benji Webb worked 8.1 strong innings with nine strikeouts before Jack Hearn closed in relief, according to the release. The Toppers travel to William Carey University on April 23.
