Blue Mountain loses to Freed-Hardeman 7-6 on eighth-inning sacrifice fly

HENDERSON, Tennessee — Blue Mountain College fell 7-6 to Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday after the Lions took the lead for good on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, the school said.

Freed-Hardeman struck first, scoring in each of the first three innings via a sacrifice bunt, a solo home run and a wild pitch to build a 3-0 lead. The Lions added another run in the fourth to make it 4-0 before the Toppers began chipping away.

Ross Polizzi opened Blue Mountain’s rally with an RBI double in the fourth. Jacob Bryant tied the game with a three-run home run in the fifth, and Jake Meilstrup put the Toppers ahead with a two-run homer in the sixth. Freed-Hardeman tied the game later in the sixth and regained the lead in the eighth.

Bryant finished with three RBIs and Meilstrup had two RBIs and reached base four times. Judson Griffin started on the mound and allowed three runs over three innings. Jesse Hancock took the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run in the eighth; Chip Harris closed with a scoreless inning.

Blue Mountain returns home to host Freed-Hardeman on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the BMCU Sportsplex. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
