Toppers drop series to ABAC on Senior Day

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian College lost the series to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) on Senior Day, falling 6-1 in Saturday’s finale and dropping the series after a pair of tight games, the school reported.

The series opened with a 12-11 game that the Toppers narrowly lost, and ABAC took Game 2 by an 8-2 score before the Stallions closed out the three-game set, the athletics department said.

In the finale, Blue Mountain Christian struck first when Reise Thomas delivered an RBI double in the third inning that scored Ethan Hirons and gave the Toppers a 1-0 lead. ABAC tied the game in the fourth, took a 2-1 lead on a sixth-inning solo home run and added four runs in the ninth for the final margin, the school reported.

Blue Mountain Christian totaled 10 hits in the game. Jake Meilstrup had a four-hit performance, Thomas finished with two hits and the lone RBI, and Jarrett Morris, Gavin Foley, Trace Roy and Cody Presley also contributed at the plate. On the mound, Benji Webb worked 8.1 innings with nine strikeouts and Jack Hearn recorded the final outs in relief.

The Toppers honored their seniors during the weekend and showed competitiveness throughout the series, the release said. Blue Mountain Christian is scheduled to play at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on April 23. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
