Southern Miss tied for sixth after second round of JT Poston Invitational

Southern Miss finished the second round of the JT Poston Invitational tied for sixth with UTRGV at 15-under par in Waynesville, North Carolina. Elon and South Carolina were tied for fourth at 17-under, while N.C. State led at 26-under. Lipscomb and Virginia Tech were tied for second at 22-under.

Benjamin Fernandez led the Golden Eagles with a 6-under 65, moving into a tie for third at 10-under after two rounds. He opened with three birdies and an eagle on the par-4 15th hole before adding two more birdies on the back nine. Fernandez’s scores were 67 and 65 for a 132 total.

John Markow shot a 3-under 68 in his second collegiate round, making six birdies, including four on the front nine. Matthew Javier posted a 1-under 70 for the second consecutive round and stood tied for 32nd at 2-under overall. Javier’s 10 birdies were tied for 11th in the field.

Supakorn Amornchaichan also shot 1-under 70 with three birdies. Jake Moffitt recorded a 1-over 72, while Franco Fernandez finished with a 5-over 76.

Round three was scheduled to begin the following day at 8 a.m., with live scoring available online.
